Mentoring Program
What is a mentor?
A mentor is a trusted advisor
What is The Mentor Program?
In His Eyes Mentor Program is a project in Montgomery County run by trained volunteers. In His Eyes Outreach in collaboration with the Montgomery County Parole and Probation Department joined together to offer qualified mentoring services to men and women in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
Who are the Mentors?
Professional and non-professional members of the community whose only purpose is to help you make healthy decisions so you will not return to prison. Some of us have the experience of having been in your shoes, others bring different experiences that will help achieve the end result.
How does the program work?
Once a week your mentor will visit with you for about an hour. You will be able to discuss your particular situation in private and receive support and advice from your mentors.
What can The Mentor Program do for me?
Our goal is to work with you for the last few months before your release and for the first few months after your release. Statistics prove that preparing for your release and setting goals increase your chances of not returning to jail. Our experience tells us you will face the same problems others face: Where am I going to live? How can I get a job? How can I stay sober and clean? Other issues to deal with are reintegration with family, child support, health, continuing education and social concerns. We can assist you with making the right choices and provide you with contacts and support services to get you through this critical time period.
Is The Mentor Program anonymous?
We will be reporting the number of successful and unsuccessful cases to the prison each month only. Your name or case will not be discussed with anyone without your written permission.
